ACHIEVEMENTS
(As of August 1999)
- August
1999... A
Large Multi-Campus Community College District
A competitive
bidding project managed by Don Gray resulted in a 22% premium reduction
($51,000) for property and liability insurance coverages. Insurance
coverage improvements included the addition of flood/quake coverage,
pollution liability coverage, law enforcement liability coverage,
and a long list of improvements to the legal liability insurance
(waiver of the deductible for defense costs, defense outside of
policy limits, defense costs paid by the insurer, and others).
- June
1999...
A Small Junior College
A competitive
bidding project managed by Don Gray resulted in a 24% premium reduction
($6,000) for property and liability insurance coverages with several
improvements in coverage (including liability coverage for athletic
injury and for pollution damage). A year earlier, a bidding project
managed by Don resulted in a 44% premium reduction.
- June
1999... An Electric Generation and Distribution Company
Don
negotiated a 46% premium reduction with the insurer that writes
the excess liability coverage. In addition, the insurer agreed to
add Employee Benefits Liability coverage to the Excess Liability
policy at no cost.
- May
1999... A Community Mental Health Facility
Don
negotiated an 80% ($40,000) reduction in the fees paid to a medical
insurance broker/consultant for servicing a 500 employee group medical
insurance plan.
- June

A bidding
project for medical insurance avoided a 20% increase in rates by
changing insurers and accepting a 5% rate increase.
- April
1999... A Statewide Public Employee Retirement System
Don's
staff discovered that an insurer failed to provide $10 million in
flood/quake coverage that had been proposed by the insurer and agreed
to by the insured.
- April
1999.... An Electric Utility Company
Don's
staff suggested to an agent that the $12,000 increase in Workers'
Compensation premiums was not justified by the recent loss experience.
The insurer agreed to reduce the increase by $4,000.
- March
1999... A County Government
Don's
staff discovered that one of the "improvements" (defense outside
of policy limits) to a newly revised Public Officials E&O policy
form that the insurer had promised was not included in the policy.
It turns out that the insurer had inadvertently failed to include
this improvement in the revised policy language. This oversight
was made in all of the revised Public Officials E&O policy forms
issued by the insurer.
- February
1999... An Electric Utility Company
A bidding
project for property and liability insurance coverage resulted in
a 23% premium decrease ($59,000). The project resulted in several
